Swelling feet review

Edema in legs is a condition provoked by liquid surplus existence in the organism. As a rule, the disease influences the limbs, particularly legs, arms and feet. However, it may have repercussions on other sections either. Edema in the lower extremities is an important symptom of health problems or a signal of an unhealthy lifestyle. There exist a lot of reasons for edema developing, several cases are quite serious, others are easy to deal with. Possible solution to edema in feet is using special medications to reduce the salt level. As a rule,  the swallowing becomes a result of another serious illness. In such situations it’s obligatory to eliminate the main disorder. 

Causes of edema

There are various pathological conditions that can form possible theories of developing  swollen hands and feet, including:

  • Heart pathologies, the deterioration of which leads to stagnation of blood in the lower extremities. It is often accompanied by deterioration in breathing during exertion;
  • varicose;
  • deterioration of kidney function;
  • disorders of the thyroid gland;
  • different kinds of injuries, for example a sprained ankle;
  • allergies;
  • diabetes;
  • cirrhosis;
  • neuromuscular conditions.

Besides, there is a list of factors that can contribute to treatment for edema in legs and feet:

  • excessive use of salt;
  • taking birth-control pills;
  • hormone therapies;
  • heavy carbohydrates intake;
  • premenstrual period;
  • being pregnant;
  • standing work or the need to be on the feet for the whole day;
  • sedentary lifestyle.

Edema in legs developed due to less hazardous disorders if often left untreated which may have negative consequences. Additionally, chronic edema experiencing can cause sores and open wounds. Very often diabetics can suffer from various kinds of infections proved by this illness. Thus, edema treatment should be fast and immediate.

Edema symptoms

The main reason for edema in feet is a violation of lymph flow and venous circulation. These phenomena manifest themselves in the form of certain symptoms:

  • swelling of the legs. At the end of the day, the feet are poured, the shoes begin to press;
  • spider veins on the legs. “Snowflakes” from red capillaries or bluish venules are a signal that the circulatory system cannot cope with the load, there are problems with lymphatic drainage causing  edema in one leg;
  • tired foot. The feeling of heaviness is most pronounced in the feet. At the end of the day there is a wish to throw the legs higher, massage to remove aching pains;
  • convulsions. This is a signal that, due to edema, the innervation of the lower extremities is disturbed. Most often, convulsions are pestered during sleep.

If you ignore all edema symptoms, there is a high probability of encountering varicose veins, thrombophlebitis and other conditions.  

Edema treatment

After identifying edema causes the doctor can advise you several medications: 

  • Regular physical activity. The more you move the more is the chance of recovering.
  • Lying with raised legs. When you get home with swollen legs, go to rest immediately after a contrast shower. When doing this, place a roller or hard pillow under your ankles so that your feet are higher than your head. Spend 30 minutes in this position.
  • Contrasting baths. Prepare two basins of water: in one water at a temperature of 30 degrees, in the second – cool, you can add additional ice. The alternation of cold and warm temperatures trains the valves of the veins, provokes their expansion and sharp contraction, and activates blood circulation. 
  • Foot massage. Edema in legs needs proper pressing in turn on the base of the toes, massaging the pads of the toes, rubbing the point in the middle of the foot and heel for 5 minutes.
